Featured Missionary: Dr. April Gutierrez

We have met this beautiful young lady, on our first year with the medical mission team. Her name is April Rose Gutierrez and she is a dentist by profession. She serves as a youth leader in her home church, The Living Stone Christian Baptist Church and she uses her skill as dentist volunteer to serve in the mission field. She is very hard working, humble and is so passionate about missions. There is no doubt she loves the Lord.

Here is the result of my interview with her.
1. How did you become involve in the Medical Mission? Since when?

I was involved in the medical mission year 2008, I was a clinical student then in dentistry when Medmission2000 was held in our church here in the Philippines, as an assistant to the dentists that year, I was moved by the passion of the doctors and dentists to help the needy people in our community, thinking and praying that I will be able to be like them someday, God spoke to me in my heart that this ministry is one of the gifts I will gladly offer to the Lord.

As the Lord fulfill His promise to me, I graduated on time in my college degree of Doctor of Dental Medicine in 2011, and that same year I passed the Dentistry Board Exams, and from then on I was elected as the resident dentist of the MedMission2000 Inc.

2. What motivates you to join the medical mission?

I discovered that one of my spiritual gifts is Evangelism, and that gift motivates me to become a missionary at heart, I am fond of telling people about the gospel and how Jesus loves them. And becoming a professional in my line of career, God used that profession as a channel of blessing to others.

Many of the Med mission team has seen my hardships every time we’re at the mission but I tell them that “All my work is not in vain, and it’s all for His Glory”. Truly God has given the strength I need everyday and I will forever offer my Life to Him because of who He is and what He has done in my Life. Nothing compares to what He offered to us 2000 years ago, and this ministry is one of my token of gratitude to Him. I thank the Lord for giving me this opportunity to share to others what a great God I have.

3. Do you have an evangelism ministry involvement at your local church?

If you answered yes, please tell us to a brief summary about the ministry and how can people be of prayer to you?

Yes, I am a part of the worship ministry, social ministry and youth ministry in our church.

I am a vocalist in our church and sometimes I struggle with time management for rehearsals due to the schedule of my job but I see to it that I will have a whole time on Sunday just for the Lord.

I’m involved in the social ministry where we take care of the community surrounding our church, we do missions and we give health benefits not only to our church congregation but to other people as well, especially to the lost ones.

I’m also involved in the youth ministry where we help young people becoming more Christ like.

We do campus ministries, student centers and counseling. I’m also praying for another discipleship group to handle this year.

My prayer request is that God would use me more for His glory and Honor and that he would strengthen my faith especially when trials and challenges of life comes. I would also like to ask for prayers for my family and my relationship, for blessings, financial provision, and good health, the education of my siblings, protection and safety especially for my father who is working abroad as a seaman.
